Obituary for Mary "Teresa" Mantin

Mary "Teresa" Mantin
It is with full and heavy hearts that we share the loss of Mary Teresa Mantin on November 28, 2015. Teresa (53) passed away peacefully in her home surrounded, in love, by her husband and children after a courageous battle with cancer. Teresa is survived by her loving husband of 27 years, Kevin, and her children, Jennifer, Jeffrey and Sarah. Teresa was the daughter of Helen and (the late) Douglas Cherry of Halifax. She is also survived by her siblings Mark, Michael (Edna Dixon), Peter, Ann (Ron Huntley), Deborah (Stephen Ellis), David (Yvette Blades) and John (Karla MacDougall); as well as her in-laws, Ken and Betty Mantin, and sisters-in-law, Kathy (David Gouchie) and Karen (Sylvanus MacLeod) and was a kind and caring aunt to 17 nieces and nephews. Teresa joined Kevin for their journey in life while studying at Mount Saint Vincent University. Upon graduation, Teresa began her professional career as an Assistant Branch Manager for the Bank of Montreal in Halifax. Teresa and Kevin were married in 1988 at Saint Agnes Parish. While her work life was a passion, in 1989, Teresa embarked on a new challenge with Kevin – raising a family. Teresa lived the majority of her adult life in Truro, where she actively volunteered with Girl Guides of Canada, Willow Street Elementary, Colchester Highland Dance Association and the First Baptist Girls’ Choir. Her personal interests drew her to become an integral member of the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Halifax Magnificat Ministries and Immaculate Conception Parish. Teresa returned to work in 2005, holding administrative positions at both Success College and Village Family Physicians. In 2007, she joined her sister and the team at Village Family PharmaChoice. During her 8 years as Pharmacy Assistant, Teresa’s compassion and care for others, love of laughter and contagious smile continuously brightened the lives of her co-workers, as well as the customers she encountered each day. For all of Teresa’s accomplishments, her greatest was raising her three beautiful children of whom she was extremely proud. The love she had given and the life she had modelled is a blessing for all fortunate enough to have been part of her life. What we will most fondly remember about Teresa is her deep and abiding faith, her devotion to her family, her easy going way of being and her great wisdom – especially as it manifested itself in her wonderful sense of humour. Teresa has left a huge hole in the hearts of her family and friends, but we know she is in God’s arms. Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 3rd from 6-8pm, in Our Lady’s Chapel of Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, 669 Prince St., Truro. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, December 4th at 11am in the Church, with Fr. Mark Cherry (Teresa’s brother), officiating. Reception to follow in Campbell Hall. Interment will take place at a later date in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lower Sackville. Memorial Donations in Teresa’s memory may be made to Magnificat Ministries. Arrangements have been entrusted to Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro. Online messages of condolence may be sent to Teresa’s family by visiting: www.ColchesterCommunity.com
