Obituary for Alice Watt

Alice Watt
Alice Mary Watt – 95, of Truro, passed away peacefully on July 8, 2017 in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro, surrounded by her family. Mom was predeceased by her husband, Ted, her parents Tom and Olga Dawley, her sisters, Margaret McElroy and Marion Holmes and her brother Jack Dawley. Born in Port Hope, Ontario, Mom was an RN who served with the Canadian Army where she met Dad during the war. They married and spent many years of their life in mining communities before moving to Truro in the mid 1970’s where they ultimately retired. Mom’s love of dogs is widely known. She was a well known breeder of Cairn Terriers and raised and showed thirteen dogs of her own. Her dogs were sought after and she received numerous awards for showing them. She is a life member of the Canadian Kennel Club, the Cairn Terrier Club of Canada and the Cobequid Dog Club. Mom also did volunteer veterinary work, which brought her great satisfaction. Alice is survived by her three sons, Bob (Kathy), Don (Sandra), and Willie (Jo). She was grandma to Michael, Andrew, Ashley, Shaun, Ciara, Aisling, and Conor and great grandma to Hailey and Elliot. The family appreciates the care provided to Mom as she continued to live in her own home, supported by wonderful friends and neighbours and especially during her final years, the team of caregivers who stayed with her 24/7 even when in hospital. Thank-you to the nursing team at Colchester East Hants Health Centre for showing true caring and compassion for our Mom. A strong woman with a great mind who lived a good life, our Mom will be truly missed. Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, July 12 at 2pm in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro, Rev. Ian Harrison officiating. Reception will follow. Interment will take place in Old Barns Cemetery. Family flowers only. In lieu of flowers, donations celebrating Alice’s memory may be made to the Colchester Branch SPCA or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Live Webcasting/Condolences at: www.ColchesterCommunity.com
