Obituary for John Richard

John Richard
Richard, John Clayton Fraser, Londonderry, finished up life’s journey after a lengthy illness on Thursday, August 17, 2017 in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born January 6, 1925 in New Glasgow, he was the son of the late Joseph and Mary (Gerrior) Richard. Due to his mother’s illness at birth, he was raised by his grandparents, the late Joseph and Sophie Gerrior of Lundy, Guysborough Co. It was there John learned the skills of hunting, fishing and trapping from his grandfather. He left home at an early age and began a career in the hospitality business working at Pictou Lodge, Nova Scotia Hotel and the Mt. Royal Sheraton Hotel, Montreal. He was chosen from the Sheraton staff and given the honour of serving the Royal Suite of Queen Elizabeth II and her family during their visit to Montreal. John served his country overseas during the Second World War with the Cameron Highlanders of Ottawa. In 1960, he purchased the Hotel Esplanade in Truro and operated it for ten years. Following his dream, he bought a farm in Londonderry where he raised cattle and grew blueberries on a small scale. He was a man who appreciated his land, cherished his family, home and cottage and was satisfied with a very simple lifestyle. John was always happiest when surrounded by his family. He is survived by his devoted wife of 46 years, Sally (Langille); son, Scott, Londonderry; daughter Carole Landry, Truro; son, Perry (Sherri), Lr.
