Obituary for Sylvia Carter

Sylvia Carter
Carter, Sylvia Jean – June 18, 1927 – August 20, 2017
Sylvia Carter of Pleasant Valley passed away Sunday, August 20, 2017 in MacLeod House, Hilden. Sylvia worked for over twenty years as a bookkeeper for the Co-op in Brookfield. Later she worked for 25 years at M.P. Crowell’s in Truro, retiring in 1997. Sylvia was devoted to family and stayed at home to look after her parents in their senior years. After their passing, she continued to take care of household duties for her brother, Wendell. With the passing of Wendell, she and lifelong partner, Clarence Collins lived in the family home until Clarence’s death in 1999. Since that time, Sylvia lived alone until entering MacLeod House in June of this year. During these lonely years, Sylvia enjoyed spending time with special friend, Sharon Burris who did so much for her as her health deteriorated. Sylvia was the last surviving member of the family of Allen and Eleanor (Johnson) Carter. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by sister, Jessie (Roy) Wright, Myrtle (Elwood) Kennedy, Beatrice (Bernard) Kennedy, Norma (Donald) Collins and brothers, Thomas (Rose), Wendell, Brenton (Pauline), and George in infancy. Sylvia had no children and leaves behind sister-in-law Pauline Carter and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 24 from 1pm until time of Memorial Service at 2pm both in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro, Rev. Larry Harrison officiating. Reception will follow with interment in Lower Pleasant Valley Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lower Pleasant Valley Cemetery or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of N.S. would be appreciated. Special thanks to the staff at MacLeod House for the care and kindness shown Sylvia during her stay there. On-line condolences may be made by visiting: www.ColchesterCommunity.com
