Lillian Pearl Langille - 92, Valley, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on January 18, 2018.

Lillian was born in Upper Kennetcook, Hants Co.

Daughter of Christina (Stewart) and Joel Hennigar.

Mom's father died when she was 2 yrs old. Our grandmother raised Mom and her 7 siblings on her own on the farm until Mom was 15. They made the move to Valley. Not long after that Mom met the man of her dreams; our Dad and Grampy. This is where Mom lived the rest of a very fulfilling life of 92 years. Don't we all wish for that? It was not a life without tragedy but unfortunately in Mom's generation it was considered “kind of normal". Mom’s brother (Ancel) was killed in action in Italy in WW2 at the age of 21, Mom was 19 at the time. Her brother John died a few years later as a result of injuries from the war. Mom also lost her sister Mae at the age of 4 from diphtheria. Thankfully in 2018 this would not be considered 'normal' tragedies. It made Mom’s generation strong out of necessity. Perhaps dealing with these early life experiences helped make Mom the person she was. Mom was one of the strongest and determined women we have ever known (and yes maybe a little stubborn!). She would never give up and would do whatever was necessary to care for and protect her family. I guess we could say she was "a force to be reckoned with". This was the Mother, Grammy, Aunt, friend we all loved. She was our Matriarch.
As said, Mom devoted her life to her family. Mom was a long time member of the Harmony/Camden United Church and the UCW, Mom thought of many in the congregation as family. But the last six years Mom also adopted a very special family - the VON CCA family. A very special bond was formed. Thank you so much to Susan Shearer, Carrie Irving, Kathy Delaney, Corena Saunders, Susan Pace, Julie Forbes, Cathy Cameron, Debbie McLellan and Corrina Cormier. They have been a gift from God.
Mom loved playing all types of card games - 45's, rummy, bridge, euchre (except on Sunday!!!). So many fond memories of card games at the kitchen table and Mom saying "don't you dare go out Porky" then Mom would proceed to "go out" on her turn. Mom was also an amazing baker and cook and was known for her chow, homemade bread, the most delicious cinnamon rolls and her famous chocolate cake with boiled icing. A very able knitter, Mom enjoyed making hats for newborns at the hospital. For the last many summers she could be found sitting in her swing under the maple trees. Mom and Dad planted these five maple trees over fifty years ago, one for each member of the family. I imagine we will see Mom and Dad in their swings under those trees forever.

Mom/Grammy was predeceased by her loving husband Elmer (Porky) Langille.

She is survived by her son Walter; daughters Marlene and Lorelei (Candace); grandchildren Ancel, Heidi and Joel (Lisa); and great grandchildren, Colt and Ross.

Our lifelong friend, Rev. Louis Ihasz, will be conducting the Service of Remembrance, Thanksgiving and Celebration of Mom/Grammy's life.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice, or do something kind for someone in her memory.

Visitation will take place from 1 – 2 p.m. on Tuesday, January 23, followed by funeral service at 2 p.m. Reception to follow, both in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro.
