Obituary for Marguerite Lipton

Marguerite Lipton
Marguerite Therese Lipton – 92, passed away peacefully on January 17, 2018 in Truro, NS after a very brief illness. She was a bright light, full of energy, and loved to laugh. Marguerite was born in Stellarton on September 26, 1925 to the late Eva and David Lipton. She was one of 17 brothers and sisters and is predeceased by 9 of her loving siblings.

Marg was known as “Favorite Aunt Marg” to countless nieces and nephews and was dearly loved by many children and youth that she cared for over the years. Marg also had very loving relationships with a few lucky dogs including Buffy, Heidi, Angelo, and Lheetum.

Marg had many adventures in her work life over the years and eventually moved to Vancouver where she spent most of her career working at the Bank of Montreal. She loved to travel and to spend time with her many friends and her roommate Leslie enjoying life, playing cards, and visiting.

In 1989, following her retirement, she moved back to Truro, Nova Scotia to spend time with her mother Eva and to be close to family. She returned to BC in 2014 to live with her “west coast family” in Victoria.

She loved to take pictures and share them generously and she was famous for sending letters, birthday cards, and Christmas cards so her many relatives and friends always knew she was thinking about them.

She was visiting family and friends in Nova Scotia over the 2017 Christmas season when she suddenly became ill and passed away. Marguerite is survived by her sisters – Evelyn Pettipas, Lourdes/Riverton, Aquinas “Tiny” Dorie, Westville/Pictou, Veronica Barron, Okotoks, Alberta, Joan (George) Fraser, Truro and Marilyn Lacerte, Victoria, BC; as well as two brothers – Vernon “Mickey” Lipton, Almonte, Ont. And Cyril (Stella) Lipton, Riverview, NB.

Marguerite was predeceased by her parents, David and Eva (Andrea) Lipton, brothers, Anthony “Tony”, John Francis, Chester, Adrian “Papa”, Peter; sister, Elizabeth.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Immaculate Conception Church, 669 Prince St., Truro, Monday, May 7th at 11am, Rev. Dariusz Miskowicz officiating. Reception following in Campbell Hall. Burial following the reception in Lourdes Cemetery, Stellarton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Kane’s Kitchen in Truro or to a charity of your choice. A special thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff who cared so attentively and lovingly to Marguerite on Wed, January 17, 2018.
