Obituary for Ruth "Rudy" Mentis

Ruth "Rudy"  Mentis
Ruth Naomi “Rudy” Mentis - 78, Truro, passed away peacefully on January 18, 2018 with her three daughters by her side. Born in Truro, she was the daughter of the late William and Naomi (Paris) Maxwell.

She is survived by husband, Burton, Truro; daughters, Denise (Thane) Smith, Roberta (Jason) Wilson and Lisa Sparks, all of Halifax/Dartmouth; grandchildren, Chad, Denzel, JJ, Chanel, Keenan and Chloe; sisters, Margaret Jackson, Patricia Maxwell, Truro; Shirley (Anthony) Johnson, Boston; Katherine Parris and Betty-Lou Baylis, Scarborough; brothers, George, Johnny (Edith), Scarborough, Darrell (Heather), Ottawa, Luke (Maxine), Dartmouth; Scotty, Danny (Karen), Freeman (Bev), all of Truro and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brothers Warren (Rita) and Stan "Chook"; son-in-law Albert Sparks; brothers-in-law, Stan Parris, Albert Jackson and Morris Baylis; sister-in-law, Cleo Maxwell.

Rudy devoted her life to her family and her many close friends, young and old. She was the past recipient of the Arthur Jordan Community Award which recognized her contributions to the communities of the Island, the Hill and the Marsh. She enjoyed cooking, baking, golf and her passion was gardening.

Rudy worked tirelessly for many years as a housekeeper and throughout her working career, she developed many close friendships with the people she worked for.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Palliative Care Unit, especially Devin Hennigar and the VON.

Visitation will take place on Tuesday, January 23 from 6 - 9 p.m. at the Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro.

A Celebration of Rudy’s Life will take place on Wednesday, January 24 at 11:00 am in Colchester Community Funeral Home with Pastor Brian O. Johnston officiating.

Family flowers only.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Apex Scholarship Fund, c/o 203 West Prince Street, Truro, NS, B2N 1C8.

Burial to take place at Robie Street Cemetery in the Spring.
