Dorothea Lucille Smith Anderson MacLennan

The passing of Dorothea “Dot” MacLennan occurred February 3, 2018 in Wynn Park Villa with her niece, Betty-Lou Chapman by her side.

Dot was the youngest daughter of the late Harry and Elizabeth (Bourinot) Smith and was the last surviving member of her family.

Born and educated in Truro, she then entered the Saint Joseph School of Nursing in Glace Bay. She practiced her profession mostly in Truro doing private duty.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her only brother, Harry “Bud” Smith who was killed in WWII; sisters, Rita Rector, Marie Butte and Patricia Sanford; first husband, Ron Anderson, an infant daughter; second husband, John MacLennan and stepson, Steven.

She is survived by many nieces, nephews and stepchildren from her second marriage, especially, Mavis MacLennan who faithfully stayed in touch with her. She also has many friends who will miss her. Dot will be remembered for her sense of humour and her compassion and love for people.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 7 from 6-8pm with prayers at 7:45pm in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, February 8 at 11am in Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, 669 Prince St., Truro, Rev. Cristinel Fartadi and Rev. Joseph Thomas, officiating. Reception will follow in Campbell Hall. Spring Interment in Robie Street Cemetery, Truro. If so desired, donations may be made to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul or to the Parkinson Foundation. Many thanks to the staff of Wynn Park Villa who so lovingly cared for Dot.
