Steve Sidney Sorensen – 79, Brule, passed away April 5, 2018 in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro surrounded by his loving family. Born April 11, 1938 in Drummond, N.B., he was the son of the late Sven and Sadie (Beaulieu) Sorensen. While growing up in Northern New Brunswick, Steve spent many hours working in Lumber Camps with his mother and father. Moving to Sweden at age 15, he enjoyed his time for a period of three years in the Merchant Navy before returning to Canada. Steve eventually moved to Fredericton receiving his electrical trade while working at Camp Gagetown. In 1964, he moved with his family to Truro and worked at CFS Debert where he served as head electrician. During the late 60’s he formed S. Sorensen Electric Ltd. which has grown into a family business, in later years being joined by his son, Stephen and grandson, Nicholas. During the 50 years of running a successful business, Steve mentored many young apprentices into accomplished electricians. Leisure time was often spent with his friends at the Truro Club where he served as past-president. Always keeping active, Steve in his earlier years studied Shotokan Karate; ventured at sky-diving and enjoyed a lifetime of running, swimming, biking and participating in triathlons. He also enjoyed cross country skiing, travelling, gardening and often providing entertainment for the members of the Barrachois Yacht Club with his boating skills. In retirement years, Steve enjoyed spending time with his family, close friends, neighbours and his cherished dog Buddy at the cottage.
