Condolence: Dr Ramsay was not only someone to look up to and to learn from while I was an AHT student at the NSAC, but he was a mentor, friend and advisor when I went on to work for him in the Vet Tech Program at Dal AC. Dr Ramsay was a "walking encyclopedia". If you ever needed an answer to a question he had it, and loved to share any information and knowledge he had to make his technicians even better. His NSAC AHT grads are renowned all over North America for their compassion, knowledge, hard work ethic, and consrant quest for knowledge to learn and improve their skills for the better care of their patients. Dr Ramsay will be missed! Raise a glass, or a bottle, of beer and say a toast to a great man!

Condolence: Dear Mrs. Ramsay and family, When I walked in the doors at NSAC to start my AHT program in 1992, I had no idea the path my life would take or the experiences I would have working as a Vet Tech. I am still working in the field and still love my job. Dr. Ramsay has taught so many students over the years and he will always be remembered. I am thankful I had the opportunity to be taught by him and that he developed such a wonderful program. He has influenced so many lives. Please accept my sincerest condolences at this difficult time.

Condolence: So sorry to hear of Dr Ramsey's passing after his brave battle with COPD. He was the best instructor I ever had...knowledgeable, kind, interesting & always brought out the best in each student! Most importantly, he displayed empathy towards all animals he or his students handled/treated. I was a mature student when accepted at St Clair College, Windsor, On.& travelled from PEI the summer of 1985. My ambition was to be eventually employed at the new Atlantic Veterinary Teaching Hospital, which did come about in Nov.'87. Shortly after, Dr Ramsay arrived at the AVC, on a sabbatical. We picked up our acquaintance & my husband, Eric & myself met Susan & his daughters. They were so hospitable. He hosted a party at his home for any previous St Clair grads in the area. He & Susan had Eric, myself &new baby daughter over for an evening dinner. We eventually moved to N Scotia, & soon Dr Ramsay moved, as well, to start an AHT program in Truro, NS. The last I heard from him, he was offering me employment in Truro...always thinking about his previous grads!!!! Eric & I would like to express our sincere condolences to Susan, girls & family. I hold Dr Ramsay in the highest esteem & we will certainly raise a brew in his honour tomorrow night & reminisce the St Clair days! 1987 St Clair College grad

Condolence: I am sorry for your loss. When I first started working at St. Clair College, in Receiving in 1977, Dr. Ramsay and the Vet Tech folks had a small office and class area right beside my area. So I would see Dr. Ramsay....and his long-time colleagues Penny and Janet.... almost every day. Dr. Ramsay was a fine and caring man who I always enjoyed talking to.

Condolence: Dear Susan, Jenn, Robin and Robert. We were so shocked to read Bruce's obit in the paper today. Our heart felt thoughts and prayers are with you all. Bruce was a special Husband, Dad, athlete supporter, and a terrific Grampy. He will be terribly missed but so joyfully remembered for his very dry wit, and caring personality. How I enjoyed his chats. Hugs to you all. Sending our Love, Diane and Fred

Condolence: Dr. Ramsay was influential to so many of us vet techs. He taught us the basics but let us know that the sky was the limit and it was up to us to keep learning and go as far as we wanted. I still hear his voice in my head while I am working. Most of us will not be able to attend his memorial due to distance but take comfort in the many smaller tributes we will be making all across Canada in his honor. May he rest easy now.

Condolence: My condolences to Susan and the family on losing Bruce. I worked with him indirectly for many years and respected his professionalism and dedication to the AHT program and to technical training in general. We all missed Bruce's presence after he left the AC - some things just can't be replaced. Bruce was a great friend as well, we all shared many "happy hours" with him on Friday evenings. Thanks, Susan and Tarjei, for remembering and honoring that part of his life. I hope to be there on Friday to remember and honor him as well. Rosaria

Condolence: My condolences to the family of Dr.Ramsay. I graduated from the AHT program at NSAC in 2001. He was a great educator. I used to love picking his brain. Not just about the field, but life in general. His support gave me the confidence to apply to an internship at one of North Americas largest specialty hospitals in NYC which helped launch my career in critical care and emergency medicine. I will certainly raise a drink in his memory from Ottawa. Take care.

Condolence: To the Family of Dr. Ramsay. I am sorry for your loss. The next few days will be filled with grief but smiles and laughter as many wonderful stories will be shared of Dr. Ramsay. I am a graduate of the 1993 class . He taught me well. He was not an easy teacher you had to work for your grades, but he made us proud to call ourselves AHT's.He was our biggest advocate. He was also a very unique and special person. I have many fond memories of Dr.Ramsay. My heart is sad today but also warmed as well as I reflect on my memories of Dr. Ramsay and my time at AC. Thank you Dr. Ramsay for helping me to be who I am today. Love Shelley Nauss

Condolence: To Bruce’s Family, I am so incredibly sorry. Your grief is being shared by many people (primarily technicians) across Canada. I am an NSAC graduate of the 2007 AHT class, his “retirement class”. He handed me my diploma at graduation and there was nobody else I would have rathered. Thank you for sharing him with us all for so many years because I know he put his heart and soul into the program. He is responsible for the NSAC’s reputation for having produced the most prepared and compassionate technicians. A memory: a little tiny kitten with a broken leg was found on the campus during one of my years in the program. We took it in and I remember Dr. Ramsay taking exceptional care of that baby and giving him the best shot at life. Sadly the baby didn’t make it but Dr. Ramsay allowed him to pass over easily and painlessly even though his attachment was strong. I painted him a little wooden kitten with a bright orange cast as a momento and I can still remember the smile he had when he saw it and he laugh when he saw it even had a painted bum. Please know I am so grateful to have had Bruce as a teacher and I am sending all of my love to you, his family. I can’t make it to Truro this Friday but will for sure raise a beer at home in PEI and send a “cheers” to the heavens. Xo

Condolence: As a member of the NSAC-AHT graduating class of 1999, I have many fond memories of Dr. Ramsay. He was brutally honest about our profession from our first day of class and shared both the difficult and rewarding aspects of it. We were taught many things but promised that we would still have much learning to do after graduation. Those of us who worked hard and were quick learners easily earned his respect and he obviously enjoyed teaching us, molding us into confident, caring and humble veterinary technicians. He held us to a very high standard so that the veterinary community could count on his graduates to excel at veterinary nursing. He also wasn’t above having a pint with students after class, fostering a sense of camaraderie you don’t always get with professors. I feel fortunate to have been his student. To his family, I want to express my deepest condolences. I’m sure his departure leaves a huge void. I regretfully won’t be able to attend his send-off party on Friday but I will keep you all in my thoughts.

Condolence: Dear Susan and Family, I was a student of Dr Ramsay at NSAC and am very sad to hear of his passing. He taught me so much and expected the best of all his students. On a personal note when I was struggling during my second year because of personal reasons he was extremely kind and compassionate. I will always remember that kindness.

Condolence: Dear Susan and family, I was in the second class of AHTs to graduate at NSAC and I wanted to offer my condolences on your loss. We loved Dr. Ramsay, learned a lot from him, had a ton of fun with him and he always tapped back into his grads when he could, inviting a number of us back as grads to serve on committees, teach special classes or guest speak to the upcoming classes. He was proud of us as we went off into the world to forge our careers. He was a champion of vet techs and never forgot any of us. In turn, we will never forget him. Unfortunately I will miss happy hour at your place Friday, but rest assured I will raise a pint in his honor. Rest In Peace Dr. Ramsay.
