Obituary for David White

David White
David Thomas White

Age 70 of Truro. It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, husband, brother, uncle, and friend on July 2, 2018 in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro.

Born on March 10, 1948 to the late William and Ruby (Fitzgerald) White of Saint John, NB, he attended St. Malachy’s High School, continuing his education at SMU (B.Sc.) and later at the U of A (M.Ed). A lifelong educator, he held several positions including Principal of the NS Teachers College. He had a key role in the founding of the NS International Student Program, helping it grow into one of the largest, most diverse in Canada. Traveling to over 20 countries and 3 continents, he brought countless international students to NS, acted as an ambassador and helped establish the first overseas schools on the province’s behalf. In retirement, he continued his international work as an educational consultant.

His sense of adventure often saw him skiing, poring over new recipes, and fueled a penchant for travel and murder mysteries. Never idle, he always had a project (or three) on the go at home. But his greatest joy was time with his family, particularly his grandchildren who were dear to his heart.

David was predeceased by his parents; brother, Robert; and mother and father-in-law, Hazel and Gerald Finley. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 42 years,Ruth (Finley) ; sisters, Carol (Vern) Whitney, Janice (Robert) Clements; brothers, William (Marion), Richard (Pam), Jamie (Peggy); son, Bradley (Andrea); grandchildren, Ayla, Jude; and countless nieces, nephews, loved ones and friends. We will miss him profoundly.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society, Colchester Hospice Society, IWK Children’s Hospital are welcomed. We especially thank Drs. Henderson, Smith, Young and Ellis; Colchester East Hants Palliative Care Unit and Continuing Care Teams for their care and kindness.

A Celebration of Life will take place on Thursday, July 19th, 2018 at the Truro Golf Club from 2-4pm. Arrangements have been entrusted to Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro. Online messages of condolence may be sent to the family by visiting: www.ColchesterCommunity.com
