Obituary for William "Ken" Johnson

Johnson, William Kenneth - Belmont 78. Passed away surrounded by his loving family on July 13, 2018 in the Colchester East Hants Health Centre. Ken was born to the late William and Margaret (Coad) in Ekfrid Township, Middlesex Co., Ontario. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Gale (Newport); daughters, Laurie and Beth; son, James; grandchildren, Sarah, B.J., Josh, Jonathon, Megan and Cass; step-grandchildren, Jamie and April; great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Also survived by sisters, Marilyn, Doris, Catherine and Ruth; brother, John, all of Ontario. Ken was predeceased by both parents; son, Bill; great-grandson, Zack and father-in-law. Ken grew up on a small farm in Ontario. He worked as an auctioneer, an assistant Postmaster and at Newport Metal Fabrications in Woodstock, Ontario before moving to Nova Scotia to open NewMac Manufacturing in Debert in 1977. He had the opportunity to travel across Canada, the United States and even as far away as Israel, Holland and Germany making many business associates and friends along the way. He truly cared for his many employees and their families and continued working up to the day he went into hospital. He enjoyed making people smile, especially children, whether it was having a Christmas party or driving around in his little red car with the Shriners in the parades. In his early years, he loved to coach hockey and supported many sports teams even participating in lob-ball for a time. Along with the Shriners, he was also a member of the Odd Fellows Association. The family would like to thank the VON, nursing staff at Colchester East Hants Health Centre, especially the I.C.U. staff. Arrangements have been entrusted to Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro. Visitation will be held in Colchester Community Funeral Home on Thursday, July 19th from 2-4 p.m. Interment will follow Belmont Crossroads Cemetery.
