Obituary for Heather MacKenzie

Heather MacKenzie
MacKenzie, Heather Marie – 45 of Truro passed away Thursday, July 26, 2018. Daughter of the late Ernest and Ethel (Mason) MacKenzie. Heather is survived by her daughter Jolene MacKenzie; sisters, Phyllis Roberts, Dorothy Putnam and Shirley Wile; brothers, Leon, Willie, Ralph MacKenzie. Besides her parents, Heather was predeceased by her brother Robert MacKenzie. She liked all kinds of music, especially Reba McIntyre and enjoyed spending time with friends and was always helping others. Heather was the original member and started People First Truro Chapter and would have celebrated 20 years with this organization in 2019. She had been president of the Truro Chapter for years and was voted onto the provincial board this year. She was a great advocate for people’s rights and helped with human rights presentations in schools across Nova Scotia. She was a leader and friend to many People First members across the province. She was a lovely, funny woman and will be sadly missed by many. Heather’s legacy will live on in our hearts and the People First Truro and Nova Scotia movement. Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 31, from 6 – 8 p.m. with Memorial service Wednesday, August 1 at 2 p.m. all in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro. Interment will follow in South Branch Cemetery. Donations in Heather’s memory may be made to People First Nova Scotia.
