Obituary for Veronica "V" McMillan (Overmars)

Veronica "V" McMillan (Overmars)
MCMILLAN (Overmars), Veronica Maria

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the tragic passing of Veronica McMillan, 59, of Truro. She died on July 29, 2018 after being involved in an accident while cycling on a beautiful summer morning on July 20th. Veronica, commonly known as “V”, was a loving wife, a proud mother, a great friend and a loyal teammate. She touched the lives of everyone she met through her love of life, her athleticism and her warm laugh. She spent almost her entire working life as a Dental Assistant, having spent the last ten years improving smiles – both literally and figuratively – at Alliance Dental in Truro. While she worked hard, she also played hard. You could often find her out on the golf course, in the pool, riding her bike, kayaking, snowboarding at Ski Wentworth, running the sidewalks of Bible Hill, or walking and cross-country skiing in Victoria Park. She spent endless hours supporting her children in their many endeavours. She also took immaculate care of her yard and her garden, diligently fighting the good fight against both slugs and dandelions. She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Doug; her daughters, Justine, Nicole (Tyrone) and Miranda (Sue); her siblings, Gerard (Anna), John (Mary), Tony (Jenny), Henry (Barb), Mary (Bob), Francis (Estelle), Jeanette (Walt), Joe (Carrie) and Paul. She was predeceased by her parents, Euphemia and Anton Overmars of Antigonish. She was also a proud Oma for a short time, as her daughter, Nicole, and son-in-law, Tyrone, who reside in Australia, are expecting Veronica’s first grandchild. She will be dearly missed by her many friends, the Gyrlz, her coworkers – past and present – and Bauer, the family dog. The family would like to thank the staff of the Neurology Intensive Care Unit of the QEII who were incredibly compassionate during the last days of Veronica’s life. Please join us in celebrating V’s life on Saturday, August 4th at the Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro. A short ceremony will begin at 1 p.m. with a casual gathering and light refreshments to follow. Drop-in visits are welcomed until 4 p.m. Colourful and very casual attire (including Birkenstocks) is encouraged and the family requests that attendees bring pictures and memories of V to be put on display. Family flowers only. Donations can be made in Veronica’s name to WomenActive-NS or the charity of choice. On-line condolences may be sent to: www.ColchesterCommunity.com
