Simms, Pauline Jeanette, 80 Valley. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Pauline Jeanette Simms on August 5, 2018 in Colchester East Hants Health Centre. Born in Penetanguishene, Ontario in 1938 to the late Wallace and Nellie Piitz of Collingwood, Ontario. Pauline is survived by her husband, Douglas; sisters, Marlene (Jack) Patterson and Sharon Sheffer; nephews and nieces, Pat (Monica) Patterson, Tim Patterson, Tammy Patterson, Todd (Jan) Patterson, Maurice (Jessica) Piitz, Robbie Piitz, Ricky (Kim) Piitz, Meaghan Piitz, Jenna Piitz, Mark (Alison) Sheffer, Brooke Sheffer, Emily Sheffer, Carrie (Dan) Best, Cassidy Best, Caleb Best, Joshua (Carolyn) Taylor. She was predeceased by her brothers, Wally and Maurice. Pauline had a real flare and desire for figure skating and in her youth, she belonged to the Collingwood Blue Mountain Figure Skating Club. She attended the summer skating school at the Victoria Club in Guelph, Ontario under the instruction of Beryl Goodman Williamson. She entered competitions and later did instructing and arranged figure skating programs. In 1988, she was inducted in the Collingwood Hall of Fame. Pauline worked for Bell Telephone in Collingwood where she met and married her devoted husband, Douglas Ian Simms in 1965. They honeymooned by driving to Nova Scotia and in 1966, they decided to move east and settled in Truro, Nova Scotia. After a year, they bought a small grocery store on Aberdeen Street and turned it into a thriving business called Fin, Fur and Feather which specialized in sporting goods including boats and motors. Pauline fell in love with fly fishing and enjoyed many a fly fishing trip with Doug. One of her favourites was fly fishing the Eagle River in Labrador. She was a long time member of the Golden Age Auto Club. The family would like to thank Dr. Kelly, Dr. Salehi and Dr. Diana Locke. They would also like to thank the nurses and staff on 3rd Floor, D section, especially Cara and Jessica. A special thank you to the team of CCA and VON professionals, especially Marie Lewis, LPN. Cremation has taken place with interment at a later date in the St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Cemetery in Collingwood, Ontario. Arrangements have been entrusted to Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro, N.S. Donations in Pauline’s memory may be made to a charity of choice.
