Roy, Douglas Churchill, 81, Central Onslow, passed away peacefully on September 9, 2018 in Colchester East Hants Health Centre with family by his side. Born in Liverpool, N.S., he was the son of the late Churchill and Essie Belle (Matthews) Roy. Doug was a lifetime truck driver, serving several companies including being the owner-operator of Douglas Roy Trucking. He was a stationary engineer at the NSAC and Crossley Carpet until the time of his retirement. He enjoyed fishing, bow-hunting, skiing with his grandchildren and spending quality time with his family. He loved family camping trips and spent several winters in Florida. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary (Johnson); children, Debbie (Brian) McMaster, Amherst, Linda (Ricky) Lynds, Truro, Stephen (Shelley), Truro, Mary-Jane (Alan) McNutt, Tatamagouche, Patricia Roy, Westville; brothers, Thomas, East Port Le Hebert, Wayne (Carol), Valley; 12 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Robert and Randolph and great grandchild, Oakley. Cremation has taken place with arrangements having been taken care of by Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, September 15th at 11am in Bible Hill Cemetery, 41 Warren Dr., Bible Hill with Rev. Glenn MacLean officiating. Special thanks to the community and CEHHC Palliative Care staff. Following the graveside service, family and friends are invited to a time of fellowship at 797 Brookside Road, Upper Brookside, N.S.
