Obituary for Ralph Willis Jr.

Willis, Ralph Leslie Jr., 72 Truro, passed away peacefully on October 16th in the Colchester East Hants Health Centre with his loving family by his side. Born on September 30, 1946, he was the son of the late Ralph Sr. and Mae June (Paris) Willis. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War. Ralph had several jobs throughout his life, but his most memorable was when he was a black employment counsellor. During an interview, he spoke of these being the happiest years of his life. One of his many, great accomplishments was starting the Afrocentric Saturday School Program in 1993. He was instrumental in creating numerous opportunities for the Blacks in Truro and will be remembered for his dedication to the building of a better future for the youth. He is survived by his wife, Gloria (Paris); daughters, Sonya and Tara; sons, Calvin and Kyle. Ralph is also survived by his sister, Marlane “Sis” (Percy) Paris and brother, Charles. He also leaves behind eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren, whom he loved dearly. No visitation by request. A service will be held on Saturday, October 20th at 2 p.m. in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro, N.S. with Rev. Lori Ramsey officiating.
