Marie Aileen MacAfee (Johnson) – 71, Bible Hill, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on October 22, 2018. Born in Truro, Marie was the daughter of the late Margaret and Leo Johnson. She was predeceased by her husband Jim; son-in-law, Paul “Pony” Clark; mother-in-law, Eileen; father-in-law, Lee; brother -in-law, Michael. She is survived by her daughters, Julee MacAfee (Dale); Bible Hill, Toni MacAfee (Jeff) Halifax; granddaughters, Molly and Emma Clark; sister, Gayle Joudrey (Hughie); brothers-in-law, Malcolm (Nancy) and Timmy; sister-in-law, Judy Anne Breen (Kevin); nephews Scott, Fergus, Lee, Scott; nieces Michelle, Meghan, Kate, Emily and Margaret.
Marie was born in Truro and spent her entire life living in Bible Hill. After graduating High School, she worked for many years at the Nova Scotia Federation of Agriculture. She then became the office manager at the family business on Brunswick Street, Furafee Trading where she worked until the end of her working career.
Marie’s life was dedicated to her family and friends, loyal and always there for anyone who needed love and support. Her family was her pride and joy. She was so incredibly proud of the achievements of her husband and her daughters. She could always be seen at any one of their sporting events cheering them on and giving them her support. She was their greatest fan.
Marie was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease 27 years ago but that did not stop her zest for life. She loved to travel and more than anything she loved to laugh. She also enjoyed exercise and because of her dear friend, Sandi Bell, she was able to continue to do so for many years. Even as her disease progressed, she continued to experience much joy and laughter. She had an incredible sense of humour and wit that could make anyone feel as ease. She had a fight and strength like no other as she did not let her disease define her. She defined her life. She was a beautiful woman inside and out.
Her late husband, Jim took care of her at their home on Windale Drive until his passing in January 2017. She has spent the last 21 months receiving incredible care at Vimy Court. Knowing that her home was her most special place in the world, her family brought her home one last time, where she passed away surrounded by so much love. She will be very missed.
Thank you to the wonderful workers at Vimy Court that ensured she was always treated with respect and dignity. Many could make her smile and laugh. She was loved there and her family cannot express their gratitude enough. Lastly, the family would like to thank her most special friend, Gert Clark, who has been by her side for the past 3 years, both at home and at Vimy Court. She ensured that Marie was always treated as the incredible woman she was. Gert made every one of her days better; she could make her smile and laugh like no other. She showed her so much love and respect and the family will be forever grateful.
