Obituary for Heather Slack

Slack, Heather May – 65, Truro, passed away peacefully in Cedarstone Enhanced Care, Truro on February 28, 2019. Heather was born on December 6, 1953 in Truro to Ross Oliver Slack and the late Helen May (Creelman) Slack. Besides her father, she is survived by her brother, Stanley (Rosalie); nephew, Mark (Susanne); niece, Sonya (Rob) Aikens, great nephew, Lucas (Hanwell, N.B.); great nieces, Ashlynn (Hanwell, N.B.) and Addison (Upper Nine Mile River, N.S.). In addition to her mother, she was predeceased by her brother, Eric. Heather began her career as an elementary school teacher in a two room school house in Malagash, N.S. and after 30 years in the Cumberland County School District, finished her career at the Cyrus Eaton School in Pugwash, N.S. Heather enjoyed long walks on the beach with her beloved dog, Kelti. She was an avid skier who took every opportunity to be out on the slopes. Heather loved to travel, be it on an Alaskan cruise or a short trip to New Brunswick to visit her nephew and family. She loved doing crafts and all of her family members’ homes are adorned with many of her beautiful creations, but her real passion was creating greeting cards which she sold at the Tatamagouche Farmers’ Market. She was affectionately known as the “Card Lady” at the market. Heather loved children and visits from her grandnieces and grandnephew always put an extra sparkle in her eyes and a smile on her face. A special thank you goes out to the staff of Truro Shannex facilities, the care they provided for Heather was outstanding. Thank you also to all of her Northumberland Shore friends for their ongoing support over the years, it will never be forgotten. Arrangements have been entrusted to Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro where a visitation will be held on Monday, March 4th from 6 – 8p.m. and a Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, March 5th at 2:00p.m. with Rev.
