Obituary for Florence Morrison

Florence Morrison
Florence Louise Morrison - nee MacDonald, 83, Valley, Colchester Co., passed away May 10, 2019 in Wynn Park Villa, Truro. Born January 13, 1936 in Pictou, she was raised in Riversdale and was a daughter of the late Herbert & Viola MacDonald. She is survived by her four children and their spouses, Joseph, Valerie (Brad Grainger), Vicki, Jeffery; nine grandchildren and their spouses, Kari (Colin Flynn), Edward (Shalayne Wowk), Breann (Jeremy Gilmartin). Justin (Jennifer Bergeron), Michelle, Lise (Michael Lindsay), Chantelle, Brock and Shelby; two great grandchildren, Michael Francis Flynn and Mason Luc Lindsay. Flo is also survived by three sisters, Isabel Hingley, Elizabeth MacLean and Phyllis Jacques (Terry).

Flo was predeceased by her husband, Edward (Ned) Morrison; her son, Donny; sister, Lillian and brother, Bert. Flo was famous for her involvement and volunteerism in and around the Truro area by dedicating over 33 years to our local legion, Colchester Branch #26. She held such positions as Vice President and President of the Ladies Auxiliary and was an Executive Member of the Branch. Flo’s involvement generated fund raising opportunities for many of the committees that she chose to be a part of. Among her favourites, were the Colchester Legion Pipe and Drums, Catering Services to the Funeral Homes and The Ways and Means Committee, which generated an excess of $250,000.00. Flo received the Executive Bar & Medal, the Lillian Clark Trophy, and the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal. She was awarded life memberships for both the Ladies Auxiliary and the Colchester Branch #26, but, the fact that the Meritorious Service award in 2009 was bestowed upon her, she felt that this was definitely the highlight of her Legion Career. Flo was a gardener as flowers were her passion. An active member of the Bible Hill Garden Club, she never missed an opportunity to jump on a bus and tour gardens around the Maritimes, and of course obtain beautiful new plants to populate her flower beds all around her house. You would be hard pressed to beat Flo in a scrabble match or card game, especially crib. Flo loved going to the beach, to fish when she was younger and found the passion to travel. She was blessed with much family and most recently found constant joy through her two great grandsons, Michael and Mason. Flo’s family would like to extend recognition and sincere thanks to Kelly Flemming and the VON staff and nurse Marie who cared for mom in her home for the last two years and without you she would not have been able to remain in her home for as long as she did. We also thank Lisa Weatherbee and the Palliative teams that supported mom since March. Your care and dedication will always be appreciated as you not only cared for our mom, but the family who needed your support. Thank you, Carol and Ted Powell, we love you and will always remember how your kindness and friendship was always available for mom to draw on. Dr. Graham, Dr. Henderson and Dr. Locke, we appreciate your kind, gentle care. Wynn Park Villa, no words will ever come close to describing how much you did for our entire family. Our mom was surrounded by true kindness and professionalism and mixed with the feel of family and compassion. Charlene spent the day with us as we all said goodbye to our beautiful mom.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 15 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm with a combined Royal Canadian Legion Branch 26 and Ladies Auxiliary Tribute Service beginning at 6pm in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro. Funeral Service will be held Thursday, May 16 at 2pm in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Donna Lawrence officiating. Reception will follow. Interment at a later date in Crossroads Cemetery, Valley. If so desired, donations in Flo’s memory may be made to the Wynn Park Activity Fund. Live Webcasting of the service will begin at 1:58pm (Atlantic Time) and is available with online condolences at: www.ColchesterCommunity.com
