Obituary for Janet Ferguson

Ferguson, Janet Diane – 86, Truro. We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our mother, Janet Diane Ferguson (nee Howatt) on Tuesday, May 21, 2019 in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by the children who adored her. She was born on February 8, 1933 to the late Whitfield and Doris (Miller) Howatt in Victoria, PEI. Janet left home at seventeen, determined to see the world. She made it no further than Truro where she met Arleigh Ferguson and her plans changed. They married in 1953 and started a life and a family together culminating in six children, twelve grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren. She worked many different jobs outside of the home to help support her family but her favourite was at Stan Hanes Transfer, giving her the opportunity to work with her father, whom she respected and admired. Work, however, was not where she found her fulfillment. That came through her role as a mother, with her children providing her with her greatest joy. There was nothing she wouldn’t have done for them. Besides her parents, Janet was predeceased by her husband, Arleigh and her son-in-law, Bryan Roberts. She is survived by her sister Heather Dalrymple and her six children; Tanya (Stanley) Zwicker, Barry Ferguson, Pamela (Jim) Hutchinson, Dale Roberts (Gary Hyland), David (Michele) Ferguson, Marlo Ferguson (Craig Wallace). Janet will be greatly missed by her feline companion, Cushy, whom she spoiled beyond reason. Special thanks to her wonderful neighbours, Elsie, Kenny, and Joan whose friendship and support were so greatly appreciated. The family would like to express their appreciation to the Palliative Care Unit at the CEHHC for their kindness. A Memorial Service will be held Friday, May 24, 2019 at 2:00 pm in St. John’s Anglican Church, 23 Church St., Truro with the Rev. Lori Ramsey officiating. Reception will follow in the Kaulback Hall. Interment in Crossroads Cemetery, Valley. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Nova Scotia SPCA. Arrangements have been entrusted to Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro. Online condolences are available by visiting www.ColchesterCommunity.com
