Irving (Alexander), Darlene Janet – 64, Masstown, NS. Passed away peacefully after losing her battle with cancer with her family by her side in Colchester East Hants Health Centre on July 1, 2019. She was born on July 21, 1954 and raised in Masstown, NS, she was a daughter of the late Angus and Ellen Alexander. Darlene was a very hard worker, always carrying love and pride into her job wanting the best for everyone. Customer Service was #1. She worked in the meat department at the Truro Mall IGA for 21 years and at the Atlantic Superstore for 21 years, two months and three days. On her days off from work, she loved to stay busy cooking and baking, planning family gatherings, reading and going for drives with her husband. Darlene was tough on the outside with a heart of gold on the inside and would do anything for anyone that needed help. She is survived by her loving husband, Mike; daughter, Marie (Sheldon), Debert; son, David (Trish), Debert; sisters, Elizabeth (Ralph), Ontario, Judy, Toronto, Beverly (Gordie), Truro and Caroline (Ronnie), North River; brothers, John (Peggy), Whitby, Murray (Thelma), Debert; sister-in-law, Susan Vergie, Masstown; brother-in-law, Butch Irving, Truro; as well as the pride of her life, her grandchildren, Dylan, Ashley, Coltan, Mariah, Logan and Ryan; great grandchildren, Kenzie, Amelia and Blake. Also surviving Darlene are her aunts, Glenda Young, Betty Crossman and Ileen Alexander along with many nieces, nephews and cousins here and in Edinburgh, Scotland. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her son, Lenny and great grandson, Austin. If so desired, donations in Darlene’s memory may be made to the Colchester East Hants Hospice Society or Children’s Wish Foundation. Thank you to Dr. Don Rowe for your great care and attention, the VON and the excellent care received from the Palliative Care Team. Arrangements have been entrusted to Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro. A Celebration of Life/Visitation will be held on Friday, July 5th from 6 – 8 p.m. with Words of Remembrance at 7 p.m. Private family interment in the Masstown Cemetery.
