Obituary for Shirley Moore

Shirley Moore
Shirley Marguerite Moore - age 94, Truro. It is with sadness, but gratitude for a life well lived, that we announce the passing of our mother Shirley who died peacefully in Truro on Wednesday, February 5th, 2020.

Shirley was born in Port Williams, Nova Scotia on September 18, 1925 and was the daughter of Jean and Stanley Barkhouse. She spent her life in Truro where she attended school and continued on to graduate from the Aberdeen School of Nursing in 1947. She met and married her husband, Rex Moore and brought up their three children in the family home on Queen Street. Shirley was known for her love of life, sense of humour and dedication to her family.

Shirley enjoyed everything about life, especially when she was at the cottage. She will be remembered for the many many food and social occasions she hosted at her home on Queen Street over the years. She loved having people drop in to the house, always ready with a cup, an attentive ear and an interest in their lives and families. And she was always up for a good party. We will never forget her wonderful sense of humour, her funny antics and unique one liners and cliches. She was “one of a kind”.

Shirley was an active individual, constantly on the move, walking, attending fitness classes and going to dances with Rex. She was a lifetime adherent of First United Church in Truro and a member of the UCW. She was also a member of the Diamond Rebecca Lodge, the Truro Lion's Club and the Truro Legion Ladies Auxiliary.

She was predeceased by her husband, Rexford Douglas Moore, her brother, Douglas Barkhouse, her mother, Jean Johnson, her father, Stanley Barkhouse and her son in law, Harvey Morrison.

She is survived by her daughter, Brenda Setterlund (Warren) and their children, Colin Maynard (Keeley) and Trevor Maynard (Amanda); son, Bruce Moore (Nancy) and their children, Robert Moore (Evie) and Mary Sutow (Patrick); daughter, Carol Morrison and her daughter, Sarah Morrison (Jeff Snyder); several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

We would like to thank the staff at The Mira, for the friendship and loving care they provided during these last two years. We could depend on them to look after mom with kindness, enjoying all of her fun loving mannerisms and her good nature, as did we.

The family is planning to have a graveside service at a later date in Robie Street Cemetery, Truro. Donations may be made to a charity of your choice. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro, NS, B2N 5H2. Condolences to the family may be made by visiting www.ColchesterCommunity.com
