Obituary for Mark Winchester

Mark Winchester
Winchester, Mark Ernest, age 42, Truro. The family of Mark Ernest Winchester is saddened to announce his sudden passing on Wednesday, February 5, 2020 in the Dominican Republic at the age of 42 years. Mark was born on August 18, 1977 in Saint John, NB to Joseph and Brenda (McCaustlin) Winchester. He started his career in the conveyor belt industry in 1998 working both locally and internationally. Eventually, he worked his way up to a supervisory position at his final place of employment, IAMGOLD in Africa. Despite a huge language barrier, Mark managed to develop many friendships with the locals as well as other expatriates like himself. If he couldn't learn French, he would just teach the mine English. On November 12, 2011, he married Penny Ann Cole and they raised four children together. Mark was an avid sports fan, loved to entertain and barbecue, spend time at the lake with friends and adored his beloved dog, Cookie. Always upbeat (unless his team was losing), he brightened people's days with his contagious laugh and big heart. Travel was one of his passions, whether it was for work or pleasure and recently completed a European adventure with dear friends. He made friends wherever he went because that is the type of person he was. Mark was predeceased his father, Joseph and his mother, Brenda. He is survived by his "beautiful wife," Penny; son, Mark Winchester Jr; stepchildren, Grady, Maddie, and Charli Lepper; sister, Cathy Brideau (Tom); brother, Donnie Winchester; father-in-law, Art Cole; mother-in-law, Linda Cole; sisters-in-law, Karen Cole (Brent) and Amanda Cole (Ben); brother-in-law, David Cole (Mya) and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. A visitation will be held on Saturday, February 29th beginning at 1 p.m. until time of memorial service at 3p.m., both in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro with Rev. Carolyn Wilson-Wynne officiating. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Colchester SPCA or charity of choice.
