Obituary for David Drummond

David Drummond
Drummond, David Carl, age 79, Shortt’s Lake. It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of a great man due to complications of pulmonary fibrosis. David Drummond was born on September 2, 1940 in Halifax, NS to Linda (Clory) and Alexander Drummond. After graduating from the Halifax Dockyard as a Machinist, he went on to work for Rothesay Paper in New Brunswick and Scott Paper in New Glasgow as a Millwright before moving to PEI to teach Mechanical Drafting at Holland College – a time that he remembered fondly throughout his years. After a short stint as a draftsman at the Oxford Foundry, he finally settled in Truro, NS and, with business partner, Jim Croft, established Fundy Grinding Ltd which became a mainstay of the business community in town for 35 years.

All of Dave’s accomplishments would not have been possible without the love and support of his wife, Andrea (Leblanc). Together they raised two children, Jim and Sandra, of whom he was immensely proud. Dave also loved his motorcycle trips with Andrea, family camping, fishing and snowmobile trips on Mt. Thom with the Crofts. Throughout his life, Dave had a natural, mechanical aptitude with multiple patented inventions. He and his son, Jim loved making many pilgrimages to Carlisle, Pennsylvania for the annual car shows where there would be vintage cars as far as the eye could see.

Later in life, his greatest joy came from spending family time with his four grandchildren; Cooper, Hailey, Grace and Gavin. Whether it was in a rink, at the lake or on one of the many awesome family vacations down south, Dave loved spending his time with family and friends. As his illness progressed and his mobility declined, it didn’t dampen his spirit or love of life and family. He never complained on the bad days and loved a great conversation. A very special thank you to Glen Thompson for always stopping over to visit, chatting about current events and reminiscing about the past. Andrea would also like to thank Cheryl King for her support and help with care in the last few years.

Dave was predeceased by his parents, Alexander and Linda (Clory) Drummond; brothers, Irvin and Dennis Drummond and nephew, Dennis Drummond.

Dave is survived by his wife of 55 years, Andrea (Leblanc) Drummond; brother, Gordon Drummond; son, James Drummond (Joanne), Shortt’s Lake; daughter, Sandra (Pat) Flemming, Halifax; grandchildren, Cooper, Hailey, Grace, and Gavin; sister-in-law, Anita (Irvin) Drummond and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will take place on Sunday, February 23rd from 6 – 8pm with a Celebration of Life on Monday, February 24th at 11 am., both in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro. Reception to follow. Burial at a later date in Robie Street Cemetery, Truro.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation or a charity of your choice. Online condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.ColchesterCommunity.com
