Obituary for Gloria Theriault

Gloria Theriault
Theriault (Oliver), Gloria Jean - age 78, Truro, passed away on March 20, 2020 in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born on April 26, 1941 in Westville, N.S., she was a daughter of the late Roy and Ellen (Myers) Oliver. Gloria went to school in Westville, Cape Breton and finished grade eleven in Springhill as her father worked in the coal mines after the WWII. She then took a secretarial course in Halifax, which helped her acquire a secretarial job with Piercys Lumber in Halifax and later with AFL Insurance Brokers in Dartmouth. Gloria enjoyed camping and was especially skilled at washer-toss. She and her partner won their share of tournaments. She loved bowling, darts and enjoyed listening to the music while walking through Victoria Park. Gloria really cherished family time and everyone that met Gloria, loved her. After her husband, Garfield, passed away in 2011, Gloria moved into the H.A. Johnson Manor in Truro. It was a change for her and took her a little time, but she eventually became involved with monthly meetings with the members of the Manor. Gloria is survived by her children, Vernon (Marilyn) New Glasgow, Nancy, New Glasgow, Roy (Jackie), Halifax, Layton (Teri), Victoria Island, B.C.; ten grandchildren; five great grandchildren; brother, Leslie (Audre) Oliver, Kentville; in-laws in Cape Breton as well as many cousins and dear friends. Besides her parents and dear husband, she was predeceased by her daughter, Wanda, Calgary, AB in 1987 due to a motor vehicle accident and sister, Joan Mills, Oxford in 2019. Cremation has taken place. A private service will be held with Rev. Glenn MacLean officiating. Interment in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens. Arrangements have been entrusted to Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro. Online condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.ColchesterCommunity.com
