Obituary for Douglas Langille

Douglas Langille
Langille, Douglas Logan (Doug) - age 98, of Bible Hill/Valley, passed away peacefully in the early evening of Saturday, May 2, 2020 during the most beautiful sunset with family by his side. He was a patient on the Palliative Care floor of the Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro.

Born in Malagash Point to the late Arthur and Hattie (Jamieson), predeceased by his wife, Evelyn Mabel (Lemond); two infant sons; brothers, Gordon, Oman (Agnes), Charles (Helen), Almon (Lola) and Shurman. He is survived by brothers, Burton, Winston and sister-in-law, Betty; daughter, Rebecca (Wayne) Fraser; sons, Hughie (Roberta), Dewight and Norman (Kathy); grandchildren: Angela, Samantha, Clint, Leah, Christopher, Abbey, Kurtis, Jenna, and Ethan; eleven great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Doug joined the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II and it was while stationed at Rockcliff Air Force Base near Ottawa that he met his wife, Mabel. A skilled carpenter, he worked for many years with Halverson and Smith. When construction became too seasonal to support the family, he took training as an architectural draftsman and worked for the architectural firm of Robert Cassidy until his retirement. He was an avid sports fan, a staunch supporter of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Blue Jays. His true passion was curling and cards. He was a life time member of the Truro Curling Club and represented the club in bonspiels all over the province. He curled there until he was 96 years old. He loved to attend card parties in Malagash, Tatamagouche and Bayhead and always had time for one more game of crib. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He always had some building or fix-it project on the go, helping a family member or friend. He was happiest at the cottage in Malagash.

As per Dad’s wishes, cremation has taken place with no visitation or funeral. The family will gather for a Graveside interment in the Bible Hill Cemetery at a later date. A celebration of life will be held in Malagash when the State of Emergency regulations permit. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Palliative Care Unit of the Colchester East Hants Health Centre, St. David’s United Church - Bible Hill, Truro Curling Club or to a charity of your choice. The family would like to acknowledge the compassionate care Dad received from the Palliative Care Team of the Colchester East Hants Health Centre. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St. Truro. Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family by visiting www.ColchesterCommunity.com.
