Obituary for Curtis Faulkner

Curtis Faulkner
Curtis King (“CK”) Faulkner, 89, Valley: After living a life of many accomplishments and fulfilment, Curtis passed away surrounded by love at his “Palace”, Wynn Park. He was predeceased by his Mother, Margret Fitzpatrick and Father, Percy Faulkner. He leaves behind four children: Mary (George) Dempsey, Steven (Joanne) Faulkner, Cheryl (Bruce) Frizzell, and Brenda DeHaan. 15 Grandchildren: Curtis, Theresa, Heidi, Abby, Joey, Jake, Tanya, Holly, Jessica, Jeremy, Stevie, Matt, Melissa, Colby, Julian and 22 Great Grandchildren. Curtis was an avid outdoorsman all his life who enjoyed wood working, carving model airplanes, fishing, hunting and bear guiding. As a young Eastender, Curtis would often hop onto a passing train with his buddies and head to Campbell Siding. He had a passion for Plott hounds, hunting bear and cat, and introducing this experience to others who shared the same interest. As Curtis got older, he picked up the camera and started taking pictures of wildlife and enjoyed teasing the bears. When Curtis a young man, he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Engineers, where he traveled to Chilliwack BC to conduct training before deploying to Korea as a Demolition Specialist with the 23rd Field Sqn. from 1951 to 1952. Curtis was a proud Canadian Military Veteran, who was passionate about recognition for other Vets. Curtis was one of the driving forces in having a Korean War Memorial erected in Truro in memory of those lost overseas.

While on disembarkation leave, Curtis met the love of his life “Lill“ (Lillian). So lovestruck with her, he delayed his return to report back to duty and was charged with AWOL. Curtis and Lillian soon married thereafter and begin their marriage of 66 years together. Curtis worked for 14 years at Stanfields and became a carpenter by trade for many years after. Later in life, Curtis developed an obsession for running, over a span of more than 20 years. His passion and perseverance was admired by his friends and fellow runners. The thousands of miles and countless races Curtis ran brought him to one of his highest accomplishments in completing the Boston Marathon at 50 yrs old. A special thank you from the family is extended to “My Girls” at Wynn Park LTC and Gary McLaughlin for all your support. We will never forget the special care and compassion from Joyce Osbourne and Linda Mingo for making sure Mom and Dad always got their special visits and treats. Your love will never be forgotten.

Cremation has taken place. A Legion tribute and service will take place at a later date. If so desired, donations can be made to the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 26. Arrangements have been entrusted to Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro where online condolences may be sent to the family by visiting: www.ColchesterCommunity.com
