Obituary for Joshua "Josh" Phillips

Joshua "Josh" Phillips
Phillips, Joshua Peter – Age 34, Brookfield. It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Joshua “Josh” Phillips on July 26, 2020. He was born on November 8, 1985 in Truro, NS. Josh is survived by his mother, Vicki (Michael Hingley) Whidden, Brookfield and sister, Tabitha (Cecil) Atkinson, Onslow Mountain.; step-brother, Roy Hingley, Westville. His most loved creations are his two sons, Wyatt, Eli and his little princess, Meadow, all of Truro. Special too are his two nieces, Felicity, Felicia and two nephews, CJ and Derek, Onslow Mountain.
In Josh’s younger years, he was fondly nicknamed by his friends on his softball and hockey teams as “Bunga.” He excelled in the sports landing him to play “rep” for both. He was a very agile, fast and tough player that had no fear of anyone, no matter their size. His coaches use him as their enforcer. Once in his younger hockey days while playing against Sydney Crosby, he caught Sydney with a check while Sydney had his head down landing Crosby on his butt. As Sydney became a great player, Josh could always boast how he put Sid the Kid on his butt during a game adding a fun little chuckle of satisfaction.
Josh was a practical joker, thus the reason for the tattoo of a Jester on his arm. One thing about Josh that you either liked or disliked was the fact that he shot from the hip and told it as it was.... he always said, “I’m not going to lie, you may as well say it as it is.” When it came to family or close friends, he was the one to always be there and lend a helping hand, a shoulder to cry on or just an ear to listen. Children of any age would be drawn to him, wanting to play with him or just be around him. Of course he would never say no. He was known for his sly grin and striking blue eyes and he would do anything for a laugh. His laughter was pure from the belly and if you were around, you knew it was him. His character was second to none and very contagious. He was a lover of animals too and like children, they were drawn to him. Josh had a tough exterior when needed - as he trusted no one, but he had the softest and kindest of hearts.
Throughout the years, Josh worked at many jobs, such as Stanfield’s Ltd, Burger King, Irving Big Stop, Masstown Market Produce, The Catch Of The Bay, as a tree planter and as a strawberry picker, just to name a few.
Josh will forever be missed, every second of every day, until we meet again.
In memory of Josh, donations may be made to the IWK. A celebration of Josh's life will be held at a later date. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro. Online condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.ColchesterCommunity.com.
