Obituary for Hudson Sears

Hudson Sears
Hudson Edward Sears – Age 85, Truro. It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Hudson Edward Sears in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro on August 18, 2020, while holding his daughter’s hand, after spending the day with family. Born in Pugwash on November 19, 1934, he was the first son of the late Walter Edward Sears and Dorothy (Southgate) Sears.

Hudson was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. He was in the Royal Canadian Air Force for three years and then worked in the aircraft industry most of his life with the exception of several years at the Halifax Shipyards building oil rigs.

He loved carpentry and built his home in Elmsdale, his summer cottage at the shore - Heather Beach and various projects for his family. He delighted in doing odd jobs around his property and spending time tinkering in his garage. Hudson enjoyed camping and taking trips across Canada in his motor home with family and loved spending several winters in Florida. In his later retirement years, he looked forward to spending time on the front veranda watching the sights and traffic with his beloved dogs and catching up on the neighbourly news.

Hudson is survived by his wife of 63 years, Shirley (Gilbert); his four children, Michael, David (Christine), Brian (Myrna) and Catherine (Brad); six grandchildren, Christopher (Erin), Joshua (Lacey), Miranda (Brad), Kaitlyn (Corey), Allison, and Jake; four great grandchildren; his sister, Gladys (known as “Toots”); half-brothers, Lynne, Brian, Shawn and Timmy; half-sisters, Heddy, Dottie and Lorraine as well as several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his infant daughter, Shelly Lynn; his brothers, Teddy and Jerry; half-brother, Jack and half-sister, Margie.

The family extends special thanks to the VON Nursing and Homecare Support for their effort and dedication to Hudson's care over the past several years. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to First United Church (Truro) or the Colchester Food Bank.

A Visitation will take place from 1-2 pm on Monday, August 24, 2020 followed by a Funeral Service at 2 pm with Rev. Valerie Kingsbury officiating, both in the First United Church, 711 Prince Street, Truro. COVID-19 physical distancing measures will be in place and masks are required. Interment will follow in Sandy Hill Cemetery, Belnan, NS. Live webcasting of the service will begin at 1:58 pm (Atlantic Time) and is available along with online condolences by visiting www.ColchesterCommunity.com.
