Obituary for Russell Stewart

Stewart, Russell Harry– Age 87, Old Barns, passed away peacefully on September 9, 2020 in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born in Old Barns on September 8, 1933, he was a son of the late Roger and Violet Stewart. Russell is survived by his children, Dana, Donna (Wade) Taylor, Kevin, Kim (Darren) McLean; foster-son, Phillip (Rebecca) Collins; grandchildren, Roger, Spencer, Cameron, Sarah, Matthew, Jeff, Joey, Matthew, Ashley, Natasha and Naomi; sixteen great grandchildren; brothers, Ruthven and Ervin; sisters, Mary, Elizabeth and Ann; sister-in-law, Eunice Nolan. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Christina (Nolan); brother, Laurie and sister, Margaret. Russell worked as a farmer and with the Marshlands Conservation. He was also a truck driver and during one of his trips, he rescued the trapped driver of a burning oil tanker and was awarded the Medal of Bravery in 1976. Russell loved to fish and hunt with his good friend, John Hayden. He was a huge fan of the Toronto Blue Jays and his great grandson, Sawyer, updated him with daily scores through Grammie. Donations in his memory may be made to the Cobequid Fire Brigade who showed him great respect over the years. Cremation has taken place. A private family service will take place at a later date.
