Shirley was born in Norman’s Cove, NL in 1933, a daughter of the late Malcolm and Flossie (Temple) Hollett. She joined the military and her rank was Air Woman. She married Robert JD Gaudet (deceased) in 1953 and had six children. She attended Teacher's College in Truro, NS as a mature student, graduating Honors with Distinction, later completing a BEd at MSVU. She taught school at New Germany Rural High School until she retired in 1985. Shirley was a brilliant seamstress, loved reading, traveling, gardening, dancing and was a lifelong learner. She loved having celebrations with family and friends. Mom exemplified strength and optimism in everything she did with a deep love of family and a smile that always lit up the room.
