Obituary for Shirley Gaudet

Gaudet, Shirley Maxine - Age 87, Lower Truro. Our beloved mother, wife, sister, gramma and great gramma peacefully passed away in Truro on October 1, 2020. Shirley M. Gaudet (Hollett) is survived by her loving husband, Carman Purdy and her children, Cheryl, Angela (Kenny) and their children, Brad and Lisa (Adam) and their son, Casey; Susan (Ross) and their children, Sylvia (Gabe) and Joe (Cynlee) and their son, Justin; Michael (Sharon) and their daughter, Ilara; Steven (Janice) and their children, Erin (Alan), Janice (AKA Coco) and Will; Douglas (Debra) and their son, Matthew (Rachael) and their son, Hendren; David (Jayme) and their sons, Price and Austin. Surviving siblings, Dwight (Maureen), Judy (Casey), Margo (Merv), Linda, Effie (Keith), Calvin (Elaine) and Geraldine. There are five surviving stepchildren and many nieces and nephews that are very dear to Shirley.

Shirley was born in Norman’s Cove, NL in 1933, a daughter of the late Malcolm and Flossie (Temple) Hollett. She joined the military and her rank was Air Woman. She married Robert JD Gaudet (deceased) in 1953 and had six children. She attended Teacher's College in Truro, NS as a mature student, graduating Honors with Distinction, later completing a BEd at MSVU. She taught school at New Germany Rural High School until she retired in 1985. Shirley was a brilliant seamstress, loved reading, traveling, gardening, dancing and was a lifelong learner. She loved having celebrations with family and friends. Mom exemplified strength and optimism in everything she did with a deep love of family and a smile that always lit up the room. She was an inspiration to all who knew her and she will remain in our thoughts and our hearts forever.
