Obituary for Hugh Carter

Carter, Hugh Edward – age 95, Brookfield

It is with great sadness, but also with recognition of a long and rewarding life, that we announce that Hugh passed peacefully at home with family on October 17, 2020. Hugh was born in Brookfield and called it home for his 95 years. He loved his community and its citizens. Hugh was the son of the late Harold and Florence (Clark) Carter of Brookfield. He devoted much of his life to family and farming. He had an intense appreciation and love for animals, land and nature. He was always forward thinking and working on a project – either on the farm, in the wood lot or in the political arena. In his later years, Hugh loved and cherished the time spent with members of the community, his family and especially his young great grandchildren who brought a special smile to his face. Hugh and his family would like to thank the many health professionals and caregivers who made his last years comfortable and happy.

He is survived by daughter, Eva (Gerry) Lutes, Moncton, NB; grandsons, Ryan (Christina), Bedford and Michael (Chayanika), Ottawa; great-grandchildren, Audrey, Eli and Kalin; sister-in-law, Freda Sutherland, several nieces and nephews and his cousin Eleanor Carter.

Hugh was predeceased by his wife, Audrey (Yuill) in 2017; and brothers, Alex Sutherland, Clark Sutherland, Arnold Sutherland, Elmer Sutherland and Allen Sutherland.

As Hughie’s life reflected-

May your milk be creamy, your tires muddy,
your labs yellow, and your tractor run like a Deere
