Condolences

Condolence From: Rev. Brian MacDonald
Condolence: Nancy and family: Sorry to hear about David's passing. I was extremely fortunate to be able to work under his leadership 1992-1997. He helped me to grow in wisdom, to be aware of the pitfalls of ministry, and looked out for me at those times when I was lacking in experience. A very generous man at all times and in all ways.

Condolence: We were saddened to read of Rev David's recent passing. When our church in Antigonish was without a minister for a period of time in 2004, Rev David happily drove from Truro to preside over our marriage ceremony. He was so kind and caring, putting us all at ease. He also attended the wedding of Mike's daughter in Truro. Our sympathy to his family, friends and colleagues. May he rest peacefully.

I have so many wonderful memories of this wonderful, gentle man who always had the warmest smile, time for every person he met, and words of wisdom to share. I will miss him saying to me, "There's my papergirl" and giving me a hug. He did this everytime I saw him. Those hugs and talks I will always treasure. Condolences are being sent to Nancy, Sandy, and Peter and family from me, my grandmother Elva Archibald, and my mom, Judie Weir. I hope all your wonderful memories will bring you comfort at this sad time.

Condolence From: Ruth Ann McOnie
Condolence: I have fond memories of Rev. MacNaughton as our minister at First United Church in Truro when I was a young child. I always felt a keen sense of love of God when I would hear him speak from the pulpit, challenge us his words and his endless knowledge of text he had read and readings from books that he would pull into his sermons. By far what made him a wonderful teacher was his strong storytelling and sense of humor. He always seemed to make things relevant and meaningful to me. There was also a strong connection between my parents Vic and Shirley Saxon who knew both Dave and Nancy, from their school days. The Cape Breton and Truro ties and love of our families, kids and our shared church faith family. In later years with Dave and Nancy back in Truro, when we would meet, I would always receive that warm sunny smile and hug from Dave. May he be smiling still and happy up in heaven with his God. Love, Ruth Ann

Condolence: As a student at Pine Hill( Class of 1966) I remember with appreciation the personality and ministry of Dave. He was a person of and was interested in all those he met. Condolence: Dear Nancy and family, I was deeply saddened to hear of David's passing. He was such a kind soul and wonderful friend to my family. His unique way of engaging with people always amazed me. The way in which he showed sincere interest in your life, exuded such positivity and his intellectual observations left a lasting impression on me after every conversation with him. I've never met anyone else with those exact qualities, he was truly "one of a kind". I am grateful for his friendship.

Condolence: Dear Nancy and family, I was saddened to hear of Dave‘s passing. Anytime we would meet, well beyond his tenure at First United, it was like it might have been yesterday. Dave’s wonderful sense of humour and his ability to make conversation always left me a better person for knowing him. Even as a youngster, sitting in church, I remember Dave as an outstanding speaker and yet when speaking with him individually, he couldn’t have been more focused on our conversation. We will miss his kind heart. My sympathies to you and family.
