John was one of the founding members of MERIT Nova Scotia. He played an important role to bringing stability to provincial business owners and their work teams.

Retiring at the age of 60, John continued to be heavily involved in the community for many years including volunteering at the North Shore ATV Club, Snowmobile Club and President of the Tatamagouche Area Trails Association which was his latest project that he enjoyed so much.

John and Sandra enjoyed spending winter months in Florida and traveling by motorhome across Canada and parts of the United States, including one of his most memorable trips to Fort McMurray to visit Britt. He had a great love for his family and especially enjoyed his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to his latest pet project, the Tatamagouche Area Trails Association or the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
