Obituary for Colin "Mac" Gillis

Colin "Mac" Gillis
Gillis, “Mac” Colin MacAdam – Age 73, Truro/Margaree Forks. This truck driver has hung his keys on the kitchen hook for the final time, passing away on May 8, 2021 at home with family by his side after a courageous battle with cancer.

Mac was born in Inverness on December 26, 1947, a son of the late Roddie and Amelia (MacAdam) Gillis. Growing up in Margaree, he learned a strong work ethic at a young age. Turning a hand to work in forestry, fishing, construction and lastly, the trucking industry. Spending many years as a broker with Day & Ross and as owner of his own trucking business. After retiring, Mac and Lynn enjoyed a number of winters in Largo, FL meeting many people there who became friends that were very near and dear to his heart.

When not looking after or driving highway trucks, Mac enjoyed gardening, puttering on a farm tractor, watching NASCAR, pro stock races and being on the road, regardless of the reason. He called a spade a spade, had a dry sense of humour, but a heart as big as all outdoors. Mac faced his illness like he did with everything else in his life, “head-on.”

He is survived by his wife, Lynn (McCallum); sisters, Amelia (Bob) Halifax, Anita Stuart, Florida, Mary, Toronto and Anne, Antigonish; brothers, Michael, (Hermie) Perth, Australia, Archie, Margaree and Allan (Helen), Antigonish; stepdaughters, Carrie (Brad) Parrsboro, Crystal (Dave), St. Norbert, NB; stepson, Christopher (Marla), Onslow; as well as several nieces, nephews and step grandchildren.
Special thank you to all the nurses and doctors in Colchester East Hants Health Centre Chemo Unit, Palliative Care and VON - Mac thought the world of you all.

Cremation has taken place. Arrangements have been entrusted to Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro, NS. Funeral service will be held Saturday, August 28th at 11am in the funeral home chapel. If desired, donations in Mac’s memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
