Obituary for Joseph Doran

Doran, Joseph Linus – Age 80, Truro, passed away peacefully on June 8, 2021 in the family home in Truro.

Joe was born on April 30, 1941, the eldest son of the late Linus and Mabel (Delorey) Doran. He was predeceased by his brothers and best friends, James and Wayne. He is survived by sister, Marie MacDougall, Medicine Hat, AB; sister-in-law, Carol, Truro; nieces and nephews, Annette (Lyndon) McLellan, Bass River; Kevin (Karen), Bedford; Michelle (Wayne), Truro; Timothy, Truro; Jefferey (Lindsay) MacDougall, AB and Jennifer MacDougall, AB.

Joe left Truro as a young man and spent a few years working in Montreal, before moving to Toronto to work for Anchor Shoring. During his 40+ years as a rig operator with Anchor, Joe drilled the caissons for many of the large structures in Southern Ontario. If Joe was not at a job site, he could be found sharing a pint and stories at the Thistletown or Woodbridge Canadian Royal Legions. Retirement allowed Joe to spend more time at the cottage on Rice Lake and in Truro with family and friends.

Joe’s fear of flying was a blessing in disguise to his nieces and nephews. The numerous drives home to Truro and back to Toronto created opportunity for adventure filled road trips. We will treasure Joe’s entertaining stories and the laughs we shared on those countless journeys. Although Joe didn’t have any children, he treated his nieces and nephews as his own.

This past October, Joe made his final trip home where he spent his last months with his family, who loved and cared for him until the end. He was a great soul, and his loss will be a void in our lives.

We, his family, would like to extend the sincerest thanks to the nurses of the V.O.N., staff and doctors of Palliative Care. Your kindness meant so much.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that you donate to either the Royal Canadian Legion or the V.O.N.

Cremation has taken place. Arrangements have been entrusted to Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro, NS. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a family only graveside service will take place. Online condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.ColchesterCommunity.com
