Obituary for Arthur "Artie" Fisher

Arthur "Artie" Fisher
Fisher, Arthur Carson – Age 86, Debert. It is with great sadness that the family of Arthur “Artie” Fisher announces his passing on Saturday, August 14, 2021 at the age of 86. Artie was a son of the late Fraser and Adilade Fisher.

Artie will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Vera (Murray); his daughter, Debbie (Russ); sons, Eric (Kim) and Trevor (Jennifer); grandchildren, Riley (Stephanie), Kayla (Mark), Alea, Rachel and Blake (Rebecca) along with two great grandchildren, Gavin and Garrett. He will also be remembered by his sisters, Sylvia Barnhill and Carol Jackal; brother-in-law, Art Murray; sister-in-law, Marina Fisher and families, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his sisters, Betty and Shirley and brothers, John, Jerry, Paul, Albert and Don.

In his younger years, Artie spent many years working away from Nova Scotia. He travelled from BC to Dawson, Yukon, Whitehorse and across Labrador and into Newfoundland as a heavy equipment operator. After returning to Nova Scotia, he established J&A Contractors Ltd in 1975 specializing in agricultural, commercial and marine excavation. Through a lot of hard work and long hours, J&A grew into a successful business that still operates today.

When he wasn’t working, Artie loved to spend time at the cottage in Portapique, at his cabin on Debert Mountain or cruising the countryside in one of his many sports cars with “Bandit”. He enjoyed travelling with Mom and their friends which took them to Europe, the Caribbean and the USA. His second passion was golf, culminating into a second career as one of the developer/partners of the Debert Golf Course and many golf vacations to Florida and Carolinas with his golf buddies. Artie supposedly retired after 25 years with Trevor taking over J&A Contractors in 2000. Even though he was supposed to be retired, he was still able to tinker with the business up until a month ago.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff on 3D and Dr. Kelly in the Colchester East Hants Health Centre.

By request, there will be no visitation and Artie’s wishes of cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the S.P.C.A. or charity of choice.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, August 23rd at 10 a.m. in Middle Road Cemetery, Debert, NS. COVID-19 restrictions will be in place. Arrangements are under the direction of Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro. Online condolences may be made by visiting www.ColchesterCommunity.com
