Obituary for Mary "Kay" Hines

Mary "Kay" Hines
Hines, Mary Catherine “Kay” - Age 82, Truro. It is with saddened hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Kay Hines, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend on September 25, 2021 at the Mira Nursing Home, Truro, NS. Our prayers have been answered and Kay’s suffering with dementia and Parkinson’s disease is now over.

Born in Sydney on June 13, 1939, she was the only daughter of the late James and Eva Foster. Mom was a kind and simple soul with an important job – to care for her family. Mom’s greatest joy was found in her immediate family – her late husband, her daughter and her granddaughter. These were the most important people in her life. She considered them before herself every day.

Mom appreciated the sense of community that Westmount, Cape Breton provided her with for 39 years – attending bingo games, volunteering at the schools, chatting with the many neighbors and sharing the crossing guard position on Fulton Avenue with Dad. Mom and Dad enjoyed watching community baseball games, Sunday drives, restaurant meals and watching Coronation Street and game shows.

Special thanks to Ray and Jean MacKay for being wonderful neighbors and caring friends to both Kay and Herb for over 45 years.

Kay is survived by her daughter, Kathleen Hines (Joe Porter); her stepdaughters, Glenda (her brother-in-law, Joe) McKee, and Wanda (Bruce) Edwards; her granddaughters, Maggie Hines and Theresa and Tammy McKee; and four great-grandchildren, Joey, Brady, Nevaeh and Wendie.

Besides her parents, Kay was predeceased by her loving husband of 43 years, Herbert Hines in 2019; her brothers, Corp. Bernard N. “Bud” Foster, Ernest C. “Ernie” Foster and Nicolas Foster. She was also predeceased by her son-in-law, David McKee Sr. and grandson, Davey McKee Jr.

We are so very thankful and appreciative for the staff at the Mira Nursing Home in Truro and the wonderful care they provided to Kay and Herb with for more than six years. You are all truly their extended family, amazing friends and compassionate caregivers.

No service by request. Arrangements have been entrusted to Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro, NS. Online condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.ColchesterCommunity.com
