Obituary for Jeanne MacLaren

MacLaren, Jeanne Arlene – Age 68, Truro. It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of our mother on December 19, 2021 in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro, NS.
Born in Charlottetown, PEI on January 20, 1953 along with her twin brother, Gary, to the great surprise of their parents, the late Jean and Lawrence Matheson.
Mom always loved to have things in order and was always mindful of the small details that made up the big picture. She always said, “Do it right the first time.” She loved school and although she was an average student, she always did her best – she was not a quitter.
Mom’s family moved to Nova Scotia in the early sixties which enabled her to attend Willow Street Elementary School, the old Truro Junior High School and lastly, CEC, where she later worked for eighteen years. She enjoyed working with her special students and took great pride in each of their accomplishments.
Mom was introduced to her future husband, Robert “Bobby” in 1970. They married on August 26, 1972. They built a house in Lower Onslow, where they raised their two daughters and lived for 37 years. After losing Dad to cancer in 2013, Mom moved to town, becoming a “Townie.” Mom and Dad were married for 41 years and shared a love for dogs having quite a few of their own over the years. She also enjoyed reading and was an avid reader. She always said that reading was good for the brain.
Mom will be missed, but knowing she is with the love of her life, Dad, of whom she spoke often over the years, but always with a great sadness for his loss.
Besides her parents and her husband, Mom was predeceased by her only sister, Ruby.
Mom is survived by her daughters, Michelle and Melissa (Brent); twin brother, Gary (Carla); brothers, Ken (Joan) and Larry and brother-in-law, Sonny. She was saddened to leave behind her precious grandchildren, Madison and Zachary Grimm, of whom she was so proud and loved so very much. She also leaves behind her nieces, nephews and one grandnephew.
Many thanks to the VON and their support staff for all of their care and kindness in helping Mom in her daily life. Thank you, to Dr. Kelly, Dr. Bauld and to “my girls” and Michael on D3.
Donations in Mom’s memory may be made to the SPCA, the Canadian Cancer Society or Diabetes Canada.
There will be no visitation or service as per Mom’s wishes. Arrangements have been entrusted to Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro, NS. Online condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.ColchesterCommunity.com
