Irene  Gratto (McCully)
Gratto, Irene Lillian – Age 88, Masstown. Irene, a longtime resident of Masstown, passed away peacefully on December 24, 2021. She was born in Debert on January 29, 1933 to the late Sidney and Lillian (Geldart) McCully.

In her earlier years, Irene graduated from Mount Allison University then moved to Toronto for work in 1953. Irene and Aubrey were married on May 18, 1956 in Ontario and returned to Nova Scotia shortly after to raise their family. Throughout her life, she had many interests including sports - playing and coaching softball, hockey, broomball and golf, with a hole in one.

Being very community minded, Irene involved herself with Masstown Community Association, CGIT, Debert Military Museum, United Church Women, to mention a few. Over the years, she also shared a keen interest in local and family history.

Irene was also a lifelong member of the Masstown United Church, spending many years as a Sunday School Teacher.

Irene is survived by her three sons, Todd (Donna), Kurt (Tina) and Noel (Geraldine), all of Masstown; as well as grandchildren, Carling, Alec (Brittney), Jeffery, Chris (Joyce), Jennifer (Tim); thirteen great grandchildren and four great, great grandchildren. Also surviving are sisters, Priscilla Jennings (Eric) and Donna Johnston (Brian).

She was predeceased by husband, Aubrey in 2014; granddaughter, Jamie (Greg Blair); as well as brothers, Leonard (Buddy), Manning (Myrna), Everett (Jean) and Michael; sisters, Mae Matthews (Laurie) and Linda McCurdy (Earl).

Cremation has taken place under the direction of Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro, NS. Honouring her wishes, there will be no visitation.
