Obituary for Anthony Purdy

Anthony Purdy
Purdy, Anthony – Age 67, Truro, called his final play on January 2nd, 2022 surrounded by his loved ones. The youngest of six, Anthony was born on March 12th, 1954 in Truro, NS, where he lived most of his life.
A gifted athlete, Anthony excelled in football, basketball and rugby. He was the leading scorer in the Metro Football League for two consecutive years, the League MVP and also CEC Male Athlete of the Year. His love for playing football shifted to the game of rugby where he represented both Newfoundland and Nova Scotia at the senior men's Canadian championships. His competitive nature and love for sport naturally transitioned into a lifelong passion for coaching. Coach Purdy instilled strong commitment, discipline, integrity, sportsmanship and respect into many young lives, both on and off the field.
Anthony never travelled far without his dog, Diesel and loved nothing more than spending time with his family and friends, especially at Spencer's Point. He enjoyed fishing on the bay, reading and late night games of scrabble. Music was always present, as was his love for people and life that was reflected through his huge smile and larger than life personality.
Anthony is survived by his wife, Wendy Lynds; children, Brandon (Jenn MacDonald and grandson, Clay), Conor, Jessica, Garrett Stewart (Mike) and Lori Grund; siblings, Paige Moore (David), Sandra Carter (George), Harold (Margie) and Ian (Emily); sisters-in-law, Dawn Parker and Trish Lynds Yorke and numerous nieces and nephews along with their ever growing families.
He was predeceased by his mother, Emeline; father, Burton and brother, Dalton.
A Celebration of Life will take place on Sunday, July 24th from 2 - 5pm in the Truro Rugby Club, 441 Farnham Mill Road, North River, NS.
Donations in Anthony's memory may be made to the Truro Minor Football Association.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro, NS. Online condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.ColchesterCommunity.com
Anthony will always live on in our hearts.
