Obituary for Raymond Williams

Raymond Williams
Williams, Raymond Norbet – Age 78, Truro. It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to Raymond, loving husband, father and grandfather. He loved his family and friends and was quick-witted to the end. He left us peacefully on January 2, 2022.

Raymond was born July 6, 1943 in Halifax to parents Bob and Nancy. As the son of a navy-man, Raymond lived in many places and met his wonderful wife, Mabel, in Dartmouth. They married in 1963 in Toronto and it was then that the adventures really began. Their daughter, Angela, was born in 1967 and after that, they moved from coast to coast (and many places in between) as Ray took on increasingly senior roles in the banking industry. He worked for finance companies, banks and credit unions during his career. He also took tremendous pride in serving his community, as a member of various service clubs, such as the Lions, Moose and Rotary in many of the cities they lived in. Ray was also active in the church, achieving a Fourth Degree in the Knights of Columbus, an achievement of which he was very proud. He also loved an adventure and was always up for a trip, a drive to see something new and exploring new places.

In 1989, Ray and Mabel became grandparents when Robbie was born, but he was definitely quick to point out that he thought he was too young to be a grandpa! Candice came along in 1992 and Ray was so proud of both of his grandchildren and always loved to see them. He and Mabel took them on their first plane ride and always loved to take them for drives. There was never a destination in mind, because he truly believed it was about having time together and, “seeing where the road takes you.” He also loved to travel and was so happy to have been to so many places in Canada, the USA and the Caribbean. He and Mabel had some wonderful cruises and made lovely memories together.

Ray leaves behind his wife of nearly 59 years, Mabel; his daughter, Angela (Randy) and grandchildren, Robbie and Candice. He also leaves his half-sister, Betty; step-sister, Phyllis; Mabel’s siblings, Patsy, Louise, Frankie, Johnny and Felix along with a large extended family and dear friends. He will always be in our hearts and prayers.

In lieu of flowers, a donation in Ray’s memory to the Alzheimer Society would be appreciated by the family.
