Shirley Robben
Shirley Mabel Robben

Age 90, Crowes Mills, passed away peacefully at her recent home, Wynn Park Villa on May 15, 2022 to be with her love, Jacob, husband of 42 years. Born on February 12, 1932 in Tancook Island, she was a daughter of the late John and Beatrice (Young) Heisler. Mom spent her early years close to family and friends and was always on the go. She found her passion in cooking, sewing with her daughter Ellen, keeping a spotless home and traveling to Papa’s beloved Holland and her “down home” (Mahone Bay). She loved her family, going out for ice cream, Tim’s or dinner out in later years with Papa and/or friends. “On the road again”, that’s our mom, we miss you already.

Shirley is survived by her daughter, Ellen (Elmer MacCallum); sons, Terry Crowell (Kathy) and Darren Crowell (Joanne); stepsons, Peter Robben (Rose Johnson), Yopie Robben (Darlene), John Robben (Lois Walker) and stepdaughters, Ali Chapman (Calvin) and Susan Robben.

Shirley was a proud grandmother to Derrick MacCallum (Lindsay), Lorie (Derek McCarthy), Sheryl (Brian Clarke), Corey Crowell, Emily Crowell (Jay Srinivasan), Jenna (Jeffrey Gilroy), and Brandon Crowell (Alicia); step grandchildren, Laura Robben (Todd Kennedy), Andrea Robben, Amy Robben, Rebecca Robben (Phil Walters), Melissa Howell (Katie Shannon), Jantje Chapman, Lawney Chapman (Katie), Austin Chapman, Brittany Robben (Tyler), Morganne Robben and Alexander Robben, Raeleigh Walker, Tom Chapman, Shawn Johnson (Natalie), Stacey Johnson (Mike Davidson), Sara Turner (Simon), Tony Walsh and 23 great grandchildren. Shirley is also survived by her sister, Ramona Johnson (Wynn Park Villa), many nieces and nephews with special mention to Wayne (Noella) Johnson and Franklyn (Max) Heisler and her long-time friend, Leona Harvey.

Besides her husband and parents, Shirley was predeceased by her sisters, Helen Pearl, Ella Newell, Irene McPhail; brothers, Walter, Aubrey, Douglas and Ernest Heisler and her first husband, William Crowell.

Special thanks to the VON, home support workers, the special care provided by the nurses and staff at Wynn Park Villa for the past two years and Dr. Trevor Locke.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CEHHC “We Care About Cancer,” Onslow Belmont Fire Department or a charity of choice.
