Born in Halifax on December 26, 1948, he was a son of the late Shirley Burns (Naugle) of Dartmouth and William Burns of Sonora, Guysborough County.

He was predeceased by brothers, Eugene, Gary and David Burns.

Robert is survived by daughter, Tara Hubley, Halifax and grandsons, Brandon and Tyler Hubley, Lake Echo; sisters, Marlyn Burns, Ottawa, Linda (Dale Beaver) Mount Uniacke, Barbara Burns-Kisbey, Saskatchewan, Charlene Martin, Halifax; brother, Randy (Amanda Keefe) Turner, Marie Joseph, Guysborough Co.

In his early years, Robert worked in the family business in Marie Joseph, Guysborough Co. He eventually moved to Dartmouth and completed a course in Welding. He worked this trade in Dartmouth and with training in heavy duty equipment, the City of Halifax.

Robert was artistic and with his skills in welding, designed and made birds and other animals for family and some friends.

Robert and Marlyn enjoyed many holidays around the Maritime Provinces, with the exception of Newfoundland, which they left for another time. However, he often mentioned to his sister that he would like to go down south some day and sit under the palm trees. That is exactly what they did, with a trip to Cuba!! They enjoyed entertainment, swimming in the pools, barbeques, a bus trip to see more of the island and shopping. Robert loved it. He proved himself to be a great travel companion.

He also enjoyed outings at the Boon Docks in Eastern Passage, NS, known for their seafood, with longtime friend, Dave Hiltz.

Donations may be given to the Canadian Cancer Society.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro, NS. Interment at a later date in St. Matthew’s Anglican Cemetery, Marie Joseph, Guysborough Co. Family and friends will be notified ahead of time.
