Dorothy Edith Payson
Age 92, passed away on May 31, 2022, in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro, NS. Born on August 9, 1929, in Framingham, MA she was the daughter of the late Charles and Hilda (Crombie) MacMaster. She grew up in Meadowvale, NS, resided in Bear River, NS for 44 years, and spent the past eleven years in Brookfield, NS.
Mom had a great sense of humour and loved to laugh. She freely gave advice to her children and grandchildren and truly loved to talk about politics. She loved to eat good meals and the highlights of her years were the family celebrations, especially her birthday parties. In Bear River Baptist church, she sang in the choir and taught Sunday school to the teens for many years. Mom loved to tell stories about her life as a girl on the farm in Meadowvale. Up until this past winter, she could be seen walking in Brookfield and always had a smile and a greeting for everyone she met. Mom loved to make jams and jellies and put up preserves and loved giving them away even more. She enjoyed her time and friendships with the residents in her apartment building on Brandt Lane. The church and her faith were very important to her, and she was a member of the Bear River Baptist Church and most recently, the Brookfield Baptist Church.
She is survived by her daughters, Frances Vienneau (Hubert), Nancy Messom (Philip), Sherryl Patton (Monty); sons, Robert Payson, Willis Payson (Candra), Gordon Payson (JoDean); grandchildren, Joe Vienneau (Krystin), Susan Smith (Dave), Barb LaFort (Jacques), Danielle Jones (Greg), Shawn Messom (Ashley), Lee Messom (Nadia), Mark Messom, Kerry Payson (Shawn), Tammy Morrison (Richard), Christopher Payson (Leah), Jamie Payson (Caleigh), Scott Payson (Ali), Ashah Payson (Adas), Jalen Payson; great grandchildren, Declan, Carley, and Caden Smith, Kiefer Jones, Isabelle and Gabrielle LaFort, Jayden Messom, Hunter and Lennon Gloade, Alex, Hunter, Rachel, and Warren Morrison, Hannah and Neven Payson, Lennon and Beckett Payson, Quinn Payson. She also leaves behind her sister, Elizabeth Chisholm and several nephews and nieces.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her former husband, Stephen Bernard Payson; brother, Charles (Buster) MacMaster; son, Charles (Charlie) Payson.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Brookfield Baptist Church.
A visitation will be held on Sunday June 5th from 6pm to 8pm in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street Truro, NS. A Celebration of Life Service will be held Monday, June 6th 11am in Brookfield Baptist Church, 35 Hwy 289, Brookfield, NS. A private burial will take place following the service in Tremont, NS.
