Obituary for Goldie Blakeney

BLAKENEY, Goldie Laura Modupe, Truro, Nova Scotia, July 25, 1923 – June 20, 2022.
With her niece and Wynn Park family by her side, Goldie left this world to go home.

Upon turning 80, Goldie wrote the following:

“Hurriedly, I look away from the Valley of the Shadow of Death. I’m straining my outlook upward, far beyond the sun. I’m young again! The God of the Universe has prepared a mansion for me up there. He has given to me the Water of Life and the Bread of Salvation. I eat joyously with a hearty appetite, for I am young again. And I have wings! But someday, I’ll fly away to the four corners of Heaven. Joy will bubble within me, overwhelm me in that land of beginning again. And I’ll unloose the cords that have been tied- my vocal cords. I’ll be able to sing! Sing from the depth of my being, praising my beloved Lord and King. And I’ll hear some of siblings conversing in low tones (my hearing will be the best), “this has got to be Heaven! Did you hear dear Goldie take that unusual harmony part? Listen! She’s trilling all around Brice’s happy baritone. It’s for real – they are singing just like we all did when we were young’. Ecclesiastes 11: 7, 8 (Living Bible Paraphrase) - It is a wonderful thing to be alive! If a person lives to be very old, let him rejoice in every day of life, but let him also remember that eternity is far longer, and that everything down here is trivial in comparison.”

Goldie was predeceased by her parents, Ross H. Blakeney (1952) and Ethel May (Johnson) (1970). The last of nine siblings, she was predeceased by Garth (1976), Brice (2003), Velma (1991), Paul (2004), Bonnie (2020), Gloria (2011), Arlowene (2012), and Cameron (2018). Left to celebrate her life are her many nieces and nephews; the hundreds who called her Aunt Goldie; those who lovingly saw her as Mother; and those she worked with and impacted during her life of mission ministry at home, in Nigeria, and in South Korea.

Jesus loves me, this I know, for the bible tells me so.
