Obituary for Mary Pye
Pye, Mary-Louise, age 73, of Truro, passed away on September 5, 2022, in Lunenburg County.
The world has lost a beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend with the sudden passing of Mary-Louise Pye. (Grammy Toot Toot, Lovie Lou, Lou Lou Bird, Malou, Lou). Mary Lou was born in Belgium on May 17, 1949, in the city of Arlon, to parents Adaline and Leopold Guillaume. Mary Lou, the youngest of seven children, immigrated at the age of five with her family to Canada settling on a modest farm in Marquis, Saskatchewan. This is where she developed her tireless work ethic, strength, and love of nature. She moved to multiple places over the years including Big Spring, Texas, before settling in Truro, Nova Scotia.
Mary Lou’s top priorities were her family and her home. Along with her late husband Garry, attached at the hip, they spent many years enjoying long drives exploring Nova Scotia’s rugged coastline in search for the perfect property. That search ended in Lunenburg with their finding of ‘Rum Point’. For the next 25 years, this property and her home in Truro, became labours of love. Her plate always full with home renovations, projects, and more home renovations. She breathed life into her properties with flowers and foliage, inspiring the eye and filling the air with the beautiful scents of her gardens. Mom had no trouble getting her hands dirty and welcomed the hard work.
Mary-Lou defined elegance and grace. She was passionate, intelligent, and a force of nature. A most beautiful woman of her generation, time marked her features lightly. Mary Lou was an award-winning note taker, list maker, planner, hostess and master chef. She was exceptional at entertaining and meticulous with her every detail. That attention to detail was especially prevalent when decorating for holidays, particularly her favourite, Christmas. When she did take a break she enjoyed a glass of wine with her friends, reading books, and watching Turner Classic Movies snuggled up with her dogs.
Mary Lou was an animal lover at heart and preferred them to most humans. She was an amazing mother to 13 dogs over her lifetime. With them always by her side or under foot, mom could be found singing her little poems and sneaking a treat to her beloved pup-pups. When she wasn’t catering to the dogs, she checked in on her five children. (In all honesty, she was an incredible mother). Mom had a no-nonsense approach to parenting while simultaneously being soft, and was the one you went to for advice, a hug, and to listen to our troubles. She had a brilliant sense of humour and a laugh that would crack the sourest of faces. Not just our mother, she was our best friend. She adored her children and grandchildren and often shared she couldn’t imagine life without them. We adored her back and now not only have to imagine, but to experience life without this charming, elegant, and quietly friendly woman.
A cheerful celebration of life for close friends and family will take place on Saturday, October 1, from 4-6pm at 55 Longworth Ave, Truro, NS.
Survived by children, Heidi Jean Macpherson (Andrew Caldwell), Jennifer Louise Macpherson, Andrew Russell Paul Pye, and Alexandra Victoria Tung (Bryceton Tung); Stepchildren, Shannon Pye Wilson (Patrick Wilson), Traci Pye Roberts (Glenn Roberts); 11 beloved grand children; siblings, Elizabeth, Patrick, Marie-Rose, Chantel, and Kathleen.
Predeceased by her husband, Garry Pye; son, Robert James Macpherson; parents, Adeline and Leopold; sibling, Peter.
