Obituary for Billy Whidden

Billy Whidden
Whidden, Billy Smith – Age 87, Tatamagouche. It is with broken hearts that we, the family of Billy Whidden, announce his peaceful passing on September 12, 2022, in Willow Lodge, Tatamagouche. Born in Lower Harmony, he was a son of the late Wilfred and Fannie (Canning) Whidden.

Billy is survived by his wife of 68 years, Carol (Langille); children, Douglas, Barb (Jim), Onslow, Jimmie (Dawn), Harmony, Lisa (Gary), Sarnia, ON; grandchildren, Jennifer (Chad), Michael (Sam), Andrea (Michel), Nathan, Laura, Samantha; great grandchildren, Valeryk, Sierra, Theo, Abby, Charlotte; brother, Vaughn, Nanaimo; sisters, Helen, Regina, and Marjorie, Truro.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter, Deborah; several brothers and a sister.

Billy worked as a school bus driver and janitor for 40 years for Colchester East Hants School Board. He had the position of Head Bus Driver in his later years of driving.

He worked hard for most of his life on farms, whether it was with his father on the family farm, on his own farm in Riversdale with Carol, or on the Rath family farm in Camden alongside his good friends, Glyn and Stanley.

Billy’s love of draft horses led him to own many over the years. It also started his annual wagon train rides to New Annan with members of the horse and pony club each June. He was always ready to go with his makeshift covered wagon and his favourite team of horses. Billy looked forward to the winter season and helping with the sleigh/wagon rides with his friend, Fred Hamilton, on his farm in Onslow.
You could always find Billy at the weekly Kemptown card parties or sitting in the Truro Mall food court having a laugh or two over stories, jokes, and of course his non-stop teasing that we all loved about him. He will be sadly missed by many that knew him from the farming community and his years of driving the school bus.

The family would like to send a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Willow Lodge for their constant care and compassion.

Donations in Billy’s memory may be made to the MacLean Cemetery.

Cremation has taken place under the care of Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro. Burial will take place at a later date in MacLean Cemetery, Riversdale.
